Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo and Barclays Fresher Interview Process in India: What Candidate Posts Report
Barclays uses HackerEarth plus RISES values questions, Wells Fargo runs AMCAT then Java and SQL rounds, Morgan Stanley is called hard for freshers.

For anyone whose placement cell has just listed a bank technology centre next to the usual IT-services names. If a TCS or Infosys test lands in the same week, multiple placement drives covers how to split your time.
TL;DR: I read five GeeksforGeeks candidate posts (three on Barclays, two on Wells Fargo, one of each undated), a 2026 Morgan Stanley prep page, a short Morgan Stanley post from September 2025 and a 2026 Wells Fargo guide. Most first-hand accounts are from 2020 to 2022, and several have no year at all. The thread that runs through them: a timed online test, interviews that spend a lot of time on your own projects, and for Barclays a values round that candidates say is easy to underestimate.
I also looked for Deutsche Bank. I found no India fresher reports, so it isn't here. If you've been through one of these drives recently, trust your drive notice and your seniors over anything below.
Barclays: HackerEarth, then a VP and the RISES values
Three posts, all about the Graduate Analyst (BA3) role at Barclays' India centre, and they don't describe the same process.
The 2020 account (campus in Mumbai)
- Eligibility: 60% and above in X, XII and engineering, Computer and IT branches only. 230 students appeared.
- Round 1: 90 minutes on HackerEarth. 30 MCQs on C, Java, OOPs, DBMS, data structures, SQL, Mongo, Azure and JSON, plus two coding questions: one medium (sorting and greedy), one hard (dynamic programming). Questions differed per candidate. 19 of 230 were shortlisted.
- Round 2: an interview with a VP on Webex. Introduction and family background, then two projects (technologies, challenges, time frame, motive), then stacks and heaps, then three situational questions based on the company's values. The writer's example: a project partner falls sick before a deadline and the work can only be finished on their system. Take their credentials, or say you can't meet the deadline? The writer says most candidates chose the credentials, which cuts against the value of integrity.
- Then higher-study plans and "where do you see yourself in five years".
The 2021 account
- Same shape: eligibility of 60% across X, XII and engineering, CS and IT only. A 90-minute HackerEarth test with 30 MCQs (Java, C, C++, OOPs, OS, SQL, DBMS, with an emphasis on output-based Java and C++ questions) and two coding questions worth 20 and 50 marks. About 100 appeared, 23 were shortlisted for interviews the next day.
- The interview, on Webex, was technical and managerial in one. A five-to-six-minute self-introduction, each project in detail (why that technology, what alternatives, the motivation), questions on OOPs, DBMS and SQL, and a warning that since it was online you might be asked to run your projects. 14 students were selected, with one more added four days later.
The undated account
This post gives no year; the page itself shows a July 2025 update date. The writer says Barclays came in the last week of October with a CGPA cut-off of 6, and around 100 applied before the pre-placement talk. The test was different from the other two: a fictional narrative assessing soft skills and data analysis, then a second round on the same narrative conducted on HireVue (video answers) plus one coding question. 13 people moved on. Interview one felt "more of a product manager round" about how you'd proceed when a problem arises. Interview two was purely technical for about an hour, covering OOPs, Java, OS, SQL and NoSQL and every framework on the resume. Four were selected.
Two takeaways the writers repeat. Keep RISES in mind, because questions about it come indirectly. And one says the HR questions were the harder part of the interview. If you want to know what a HireVue round actually records, does HireVue detect cheating goes through it.
Wells Fargo: AMCAT or HackerRank, then Java and SQL
The AMCAT account (year not stated)
- Round 1: on AMCAT, with timed sections you can't go back from, no negative marking and every question compulsory. Aptitude covered data interpretation, profit and loss, interest, probability, permutations, time and work and ages. One coding question in 30 minutes: counting islands with DFS. 49 were shortlisted.
- Technical interview 1: introduce yourself, transpose a matrix, overloading versus overriding, a deep walk through resume projects, the k-th largest element (the interviewer wanted the approach, not full code), and a jug puzzle (get exactly 4 litres using 3, 5 and 7 litre jugs). 13 were shortlisted.
- Technical interview 2: OOPs and Java in depth: C++ versus Java OOP, linear versus non-linear structures, garbage collection, stack versus heap, final / finally / finalize, why Java has no pointers, threads, OS questions, a SQL query for the second-largest marks, and a hashmap approach to sum character values in a string.
The 2022 account
Wells Fargo visited for both internships and full-time roles. Out of 200+ students, 140 were shortlisted on CGPA. The online test was 100 minutes in three sections: verbal (12 questions, 15 minutes), business aptitude (15 questions, 25 minutes, business graphs and candlestick charts) and coding (2 questions, 60 minutes). The writer passed 5 of 13 test cases on one and 3 of 11 on the other and was still, as they say, last on the shortlist of 31. Round 2 on Zoom: diagonal sum of a matrix, OOPs, data structure types, RDBMS keys, C# exception handling that the writer didn't know, which they admitted honestly. 19 went on. Round 3 began with "what do you know about the company?" and moved to design questions. The process had a fourth, HR, round over a call.
The detail worth taking from the second post: partial test-case scores weren't automatically fatal in that drive.
The 2026 guide (not about India freshers)
TechPrep's 2026 guide describes a HackerRank test of roughly 60 to 90 minutes with MCQs, a section on generative AI concepts, 2 to 3 coding problems and a no-backtracking rule, then Zoom or Teams technical rounds. It's written for software engineer roles in general, not for an India campus drive, so treat it as a hint about where the test platform may have moved, not a description of your drive. It does agree with the campus posts on one thing: Java fundamentals and at least one SQL question show up almost every time.
Morgan Stanley: thin evidence, high reputation
This is the one where I have the least to go on.
- A 2026 prep page (PlacementPapers, written February 2026, updated June) describes a process as: online assessment (2 to 3 coding problems plus mathematical aptitude, 90 minutes in the text and 90 to 120 in its table), two technical rounds of about 45 minutes on DSA and projects, a managerial round, then HR. It says the overall timeline is 3 to 4 weeks and notes its own caveat: patterns shift by year and role, so treat it as a prep map. The page's text and table don't quite agree with each other on the round count and the OA length, which is another reason to hold it loosely.
- A September 2025 candidate post (Bengaluru, Software Engineer) lists coding, then DSA, then techno-managerial, then HR, and says the difficulty was really high for freshers.
That's it. No question-level detail, no test platform named, and I found no official page. I'm not quoting an eligibility cut-off or salary, because the only numbers are prep-site "student reports" and I couldn't verify them. For the technical rounds the two sources point the same way: coding and DSA, then depth on what you've built.
Side by side

What the three have in common
- Projects are the interview. Barclays interviewers asked for challenges and motives. Wells Fargo wanted every technology explained. Barclays' 2021 writer says be ready to run the project on screen.
- Short shortlists. 230 to 19, 100 to 23, 49 to 13, 31 to 19. Each stage cut hard in the posts that give numbers. The first test is where most people go out.
- Fundamentals over tricks. OOPs, DBMS, SQL, OS and Java show up in all of the first-hand accounts. The coding is standard array, DFS and sorting material.
- Honesty is rewarded in what writers report. Barclays: don't claim what you haven't done. Wells Fargo: the 2022 writer said they didn't know and said so.
- Remote rounds are normal. Webex, Zoom, HireVue in these posts.
How to prep
Sort out your resume first. Cut anything you can't explain for ten minutes. Both Barclays posts and both Wells Fargo posts spend more time on projects than on puzzles.
Timed MCQs, then coding. Do 30 output-based Java/C++ questions in 40 minutes, then two easy-to-medium coding problems in the remaining time. The Barclays 2020 post had one hard DP question in a 90-minute test, so practise leaving a problem and coming back.
Java depth, if Wells Fargo is on your list. Garbage collection, final / finally / finalize, overloading versus overriding, threads, plus "second highest" SQL queries. All of these appear in the posts above.
Practise one situational answer per RISES value. Write each as a short story where you chose the slower, honest option. Don't memorise a value-sounding script; the 2020 writer's example only works if the answer is true.
Say your project out loud in five minutes. What it does, what you chose and why, what you'd change, what broke.
For live rounds over video, a mock interview where you explain your project to a tough listener is closer to these accounts than rereading notes. For timed online tests, OA Copilot (online assessments on platforms like HackerRank and CodeSignal) is built for that stage, but AMCAT and HireVue sessions can be proctored or recorded, so read the rules in your own invite before deciding what to use. Related write-ups in the same format: Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Walmart and SAP Labs and Capgemini, Accenture and HCLTech.
Pay
I'm not quoting a number for any of the three. The only figures I found were in a prep-site page that cites "student reports", and I couldn't verify them. When an offer arrives, ask for a split into fixed pay, variable and joining terms, then use the CTC structure guide.
FAQ
What is the Barclays interview process for freshers in India?
An online test first, then an interview on Webex that mixes technical and managerial questions. In the 2020 and 2021 posts the test was HackerEarth with 30 MCQs and 2 coding questions. One undated post describes narrative assessments, a HireVue video round and a coding question instead.
What are Barclays RISES values and are they asked in interviews?
Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, Stewardship. Two posts say situational questions based on them came up, usually with a leaning answer, and one writer found the HR questions harder than the technical ones.
Does Wells Fargo use AMCAT for campus hiring?
One post describes AMCAT with timed sections and no going back. A 2022 post describes a 100-minute test with verbal, business aptitude and coding. A 2026 guide describes HackerRank for general software engineer hiring. It varies.
How hard is the Morgan Stanley fresher interview?
One September 2025 Bengaluru post calls it really high for freshers. A prep page describes an OA and two technical rounds. There's no official source I could find.
Do these banks ask about projects?
Yes, in every first-hand post I read.
Do these banks ask projects questions?
Yes, in every first-hand post I read. Barclays interviewers asked for technologies, challenges and motives, and one candidate was told they might be asked to run the project. Wells Fargo interviewers asked for deep explanations of technologies used.
